November 16, 2009 Shanghai, China - The USA National Pavilion organizers and The P&G Company announced that P&G has become an Official Premier Sponsor of the USA Pavilion, exclusive in the Wellness, Beauty and Household Care categories. P&G committed to supporting the Shanghai World Expo by offering both financial support and providing an array of products for the USA Pavilion and the Expo.

P&G has a long history and track record in sustainability leadership. It published its first environmental safety publication in 1956, developed the first chemicals biodegradability test in 1973, and pioneered life cycle assessment in evaluating product environmental footprints in the 1990s. It is one of the first companies to publish a corporate sustainability report and just released its 10th Annual Report in October 2009.

P&G has ranked as sector leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index 7 out of 10 years and has been listed on the FTSE4Good ever since inception. In December 2008, The US Environmental Protection Agency's Design For Environment program awarded P&G its highest level of recognition, Champion, for P&G's work in developing safer detergents under the Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative. Meanwhile, its corporate Children’s Safe Drinking Water program has delivered over 930 million liters of clean water to children in need, preventing 39 million days of diseases and saving over 5,200 lives.

The U.S. signed a World Expo Shanghai 2010 Participation Agreement on July 10, 2009, broke ground a week later, and ceremonially topped off the steel structure on October 14. At over 60,000 square feet (6,000 square meters), the USA Pavilion will be one of the largest national pavilions at the Expo. With the theme of "Rise to the Challenge", the USA Pavilion's design concept focuses on sustainability, teamwork, health, and the Chinese community in America. It will showcase American culture, values, innovation and business in China's most dynamic city, while celebrating the friendship and cooperation between the U.S. and China.
